I've been using denatured alcohol for several months now to clean brushes when working with shellac primer, remove sticker residue, clean electrical contacts, and remove general grease/oil stains. I'm almost out and have found it hard to find (although it's legal). I was surprised to find that it contains methanol. I've also heard that some additives can leave a residue. Can anyone tell me how harmful it is to use this product and whether there's a better alternative for my purposes (such as 99% isopropyl alcohol)?
