Self-propelled lawn mower tie rod

The tie rod on my Craftsman self-propelled lawn mower broke. The only parts I can find by model are completely different from the one I have. It looks like the manufacturer made some design changes.

Should I look for the original part, or will modern kits also fit without any major modifications?
