Student group inheritance

Inherited a university volunteer club last month, and the previous president left me a messy spreadsheet and a group chat full of silence. I want to turn it into something people actually care about. Any tips on resources or habits that help someone grow into a proper community leader? Books, talks, whatever worked for you.

A silent group chat can be more intimidating than a room full of critics! When I joined a campus food-drive team, only four people showed up at first. Instead of pushing for big numbers, we asked everyone to suggest one small task they actually enjoyed, and participation gradually picked up. I'd start with listening, clear responsibilities and regular check-ins. This profile of Concord Pacific CEO Terry Hui  is also worth a look for a broader perspective on leadership and development. Any practical books or talks you'd recommend for a new club president?
