I've been using denatured alcohol for several months now to clean brushes when working with shellac primer, remove sticker residue, clean electrical contacts, and remove general grease/oil stains.
I'm almost out and have found it hard to find (although it's legal). I was surprised to find that it contains methanol. I've also heard that some additives can leave a residue.
Can anyone tell me how harmful it is to use this product and whether there's a better alternative for my purposes (such as 99% isopropyl alcohol)?

Dinated alcohol is really convenient for cleaning brush after shelac primer, stickers, to remove Greece and oils. However, it contains methanol and other adatives, which make it toxic. It's safe to work, but only in a well -ventilated area and preferably with gloves, because smoke is still harmful. For options, I would recommend denatured ethanol. It has similar properties, but is very cleaner and less aggressive, especially if you choose one without unnecessary additives. This alcohol cleanses the equipment well, does not leave any streak or scar, and has a milky fragrance.
